Reverse: Within a wreath of oak and laurel branches with industrial and artistic emblems (anvil, globe, telescope, locomotive, etc.), inscription “1880” in centre. Around: “SOCIÉTÉ DES AMIS DES SCIENCES DE L’INDUSTRIE ET DES ARTS DE LA HAUTE-LOIRE.” Signed “A. BESCHER ED.”

The Société des Amis des Sciences de l’Industrie et des Arts de la Haute-Loire was a regional society in central France that promoted technological innovation, industrial development, and the fine arts. This medal, dated 1880, was awarded in connection with the society’s activities and exhibitions. The obverse shows a classical female figure symbolising prosperity and progress, flanked by allegorical children representing labour and invention, while a steam train in the background symbolises modern industry. The reverse wreath contains a variety of industrial and scientific emblems, underscoring the multidisciplinary nature of the society. The medal was executed by Blondelet (sculptor) and engraved by A. Bescher.
