The 1000 Francs banknote, issued on October 4, 1956, is a product of the Banque de France. This banknote features Cardinal Richelieu and belongs to the E.277 series.
On the obverse, there is a portrait of Cardinal Richelieu positioned on the right. In the background, a representation of the Palais Royal is visible. The inscriptions include the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" superimposed on "MILLE FRANCS". Engravers Jules Piel and André Marliat contributed to the realization of this banknote, while the drawing is the work of Clément Serveau.
The reverse also features a portrait of Cardinal Richelieu, this time located on the left. On the right, you can see a monumental gate of the city of Richelieu. An inscription recalls Article 139 of the Penal Code, stipulating the penalties for counterfeiting or falsifying banknotes. Robert Armanelli is the engraver of this part of the banknote, also designed by Clément Serveau.
The watermark integrated into the banknote represents Richelieu's head in profile. The dimensions of this banknote are 150 mm in length and 80 mm in width.
