This coin has been attributed to the Lingones, the Caletes, the Senones and the Remi, but the exact authority that struck it remains unclear, and they may best be described as being of uncertain Belgian origin.
They are found over quite a wide area in northern France, southern Belgium, and parts of western Switzerland and Germany, often in connection with Roman military camps, and it has been suggested that they played an important part in the payment of local auxiliary forces.
The female bust on the obverse strengthens this theory: she is surely Victory.
