Historical context:
Paul-Henri Spaak (1899–1972) was a Belgian statesman, diplomat, and one of the founding fathers of European integration. He served three times as Prime Minister of Belgium, and was also the first President of the United Nations General Assembly in 1946. Spaak played a crucial role in the creation of NATO and the European Economic Community, being a strong advocate for international cooperation. The inscription on the reverse reflects his vision for a united Europe and broader human solidarity. This medal, by Georges A. Brunet, commemorates Spaak’s legacy as a pioneer of post-war diplomacy and European unity.
