Historical Context
Giles Strangways, a staunch Royalist and member of Parliament, was imprisoned in the Tower of London by Parliamentarian forces during the English Civil War. His release in 1648 was seen by Royalist supporters as a symbol of resilience and divine justice. This medal was originally designed by John Roettier and issued in silver, but this tin version—likely cast in the same period—offered a more affordable commemorative object for broader distribution.
