Provenance: Treasure of La Chenevière No. 9 Inumis Sale.
Coin delivered with its original label.
The Hoard consists of 83 coins all struck between 1422 and 1423 at the close of the Hundred Years’ War. Likely buried in late 1423 this homogeneous hoard reflects an act of precaution during a period of unrest.
Composition of the treasure:
16 coins of the blanc à l’écu of Charles VII (issued from 12 September 1422)
61 coins of the blanc à la couronnelle of Charles VII (issued from 21 January 1423)
6 coins of the blanc aux quatre mouchetures of Jean V Duke of Brittany.
Attributed to the locality of La Chenevière in the commune of Tournon-Saint-Martin (Indre) this group of coins reflects the monetary practices of the reign of Charles VII. It also illustrates the transition from billon coinage (low silver content) to the progressive adoption of gold in broader commercial exchanges.
This fragment of local history offers a rare glimpse into the medieval economy and its transformations
