The 1973 Sower 50 centime coin is a French production struck in nickel. It weighs 4.5 grams and has a diameter of 19.5 millimeters. This coin was specially issued as part of a Fleur de Coin (FDC) set.
The obverse of the coin features the Sower, an allegorical figure emblematic of the French Republic. This representation is signed by O. Roty, indicating Louis-Oscar Roty as the creator of this motif. The legend "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" accompanies this drawing, clearly inscribing the national identity of the coin.
The reverse of the coin features an olive branch, a symbol of peace and prosperity. This motif is placed under the face value of "1/2 FRANC", indicating the nominal value of the coin in the former currency unit. The republican motto "LIBERTE • EGALITE • FRATERNITE" encircles this ensemble, recalling the fundamental values of the French nation. The date of issue, "1973", also appears on this side. The engraver responsible for the design of the reverse is also Louis-Oscar Roty, ensuring artistic consistency between the two sides of the coin.
