This French emergency banknote has a nominal value of five francs. It was issued on August 12, 1916. Its issuance is part of the Emergency Common and City needs of the period 1914-1918.
The banknote is specific to the cities of Roubaix and Tourcoing, located in the Nord department (number 59). It is part of the 8th series, bearing the number 9020. It has two signatures.
Approval by the prefectural authority was granted on August 24, 1916.
This type of banknote reflects the economic measures taken by French municipalities and cities during the First World War, due to shortages of fiduciary currency.
