Provenance: ex coin dealer (DE); ex Niels Bro-Rasmussen Collection; ex Geremia Bisceglia Collection
Historic context: The standard with the inscription HIS on the obverse recalls the fact that the mintmaster's ancestor, who bore the same name, conducted a military campaign in Hispania Citerior and was appointed proconsul there in 99 or 98 BC. The reverse recounts us of another ancestor of the mintmaster, who had organized an epulum, a ceremonial entertainment banquet for Jupiter on the Ides of November, during the ludi pebeli.
Condition remark: An exceptional coin, with a beautiful late republican portrait in high relief. The coin exhibits a fine cabinet patina with golden and bluish iridescent reflections. A superficial scratch on obverse. Rare this nice!
