Obverse: A central female allegory standing facing, holding a laurel wreath in each outstretched hand, surrounded by allegorical figures representing Industry, Commerce, Science and the Arts. Exhibition buildings in the background, with two winged children in the foreground. Below, a reclining female figure beside the arms of Paris. Legend: EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE INTERNATIONALE MDCCCLXXVIII. Signed OUDINE.

Reverse: Two flying putti unfurling a large scroll displaying the plans of the exhibition buildings and grounds at the Champ-de-Mars and Trocadéro, a laurel wreath above. Surrounding legends: REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE and PLANS DES BATIMENTS DE L’EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE DU CHAMP DE MARS ET DU TROCADERO. The inscription flanking the scroll commemorates the inauguration of the exhibition under President Marshal MacMahon, naming Teisserenc de Bort, Minister of Commerce and Agriculture, and Senator J.-B. Krantz, Commissioner-General. Signed OUDINE.
