Netherlands — Wilhelmina Silver Coin Pendant, Cut from a Gulden 1931, Probably circa 1940–1950
An openwork pendant fashioned from a Dutch silver gulden dated 1931. The field surrounding Queen Wilhelmina’s portrait has been cut away, retaining her profile within the original ring bearing WILHELMINA KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN.
The reverse retains portions of the Dutch coat of arms, the surrounding inscription and the date 1931. The outer rim has a rounded finish, and a suspension eye and ring are attached at the top.
Probably converted into jewellery circa 1940–1950. Comparable Wilhelmina coin jewellery was worn as an expression of loyalty to the Dutch royal house during the German occupation and remained popular after liberation. The individual history of this pendant is unknown.
Base coin: Netherlands, 1 gulden 1931.
