Obverse

Head of Queen Louise-Marie facing right, her hair arranged in ringlets and a braided bun, surrounded by a border of stars. Inscription: LOUISE M: TH: CH: IS: D’ORLEANS REINE DES BELGES NÉE À PALERME LE 3 AVR. 1812 MORTE À OSTENDE LE 11 8BRE 1850. Signed below the truncation: LEOPOLD WIENER F.

Reverse

Three oval portrait medallions within an elaborate architectural framework: above, Léopold, Duke of Brabant, facing left; below left, Princess Charlotte facing right; below right, Philippe, Count of Flanders, facing left. Their surrounding inscriptions give their names, titles where applicable, and birth dates: 9 April 1835, 7 June 1840 and 24 March 1837 respectively.

Two seated female figures flank the upper portrait, joining hands beneath a royal crown; the figure on the left holds an olive branch, while that on the right holds an anchor. At the centre, a kneeling winged figure with a star above its forehead extends its arms over the two lower portraits. Below, a lion’s head and a ribbon inscribed PATRIAE SPES ALTERA CRESCE. Signed above the right-hand section of the ribbon: LEOPOLD WIENER.
