Круг Иоганн Филипп - нумизмат и историк (1764 - 1844), член Императорской Академии Наук. Родился в Галле; в качестве домашнего воспитателя попал в Россию. Начав собирание русских монет, он в 1805 г. выпустил исследование: "Einleitung in die Munzgeschichte des Russischen Reichs", сохранившее значение и до сих пор (через два года вышел перевод его, озаглавленный "Критическое разыскание о русских монетах"). Главный труд Круга: "Критический опыт объяснения Византийской Хронологии в связи с древнейшей историей Руси" появился в 1810 г.; цель его - по византийским данным проверить хронологию древнейших частей нашей летописи. При этом Круг определил основной византийский источник для введения в Повесть временных лет - хронику Георгия Амартола. Мелкие его работы, изданные после его смерти в 1848 г. под редакцией академика Куника : "Forschungen in die altere Geschichte Russlands"; сюда не вошло обширное предисловие к "Исследованиям" А.Х. Лерберга. Коллекция монет Круга завещана им Императорской Академии Наук. - Ср. П. Б.(илярский) "Биография И.Ф. Круга" ("Журнал Министерства Народного Просвещения", ч. LXIV).

One of the first Russian books on numismatics
Krug Johann Philipp - numismatist and historian (1764 - 1844), a member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences. Born in Halle, as a home educator was in Russia. Starting collecting Russian coins, he in 1805 published a study: "Einleitung in die Munzgeschichte des Russischen Reichs", save the value and so far (after two years out of his translation, entitled "Finding the Critical of Russian coins"). The main work of the Circle: "The critical experience to explain the Byzantine history in connection with the ancient history of Russia" appeared in 1810, its purpose - to check the chronology of the Byzantine these ancient parts of our annals. In this circle has identified the main Byzantine source for the introduction Chronicle - chronicling George Hamartolos. Small of his work published after his death in 1848 under the editorship of academician Kunik: "Forschungen in die altere Geschichte Russlands"; here did not include an extensive introduction to the "Research" AH Lerberga.
