The coronation of King Edward VII was initially scheduled for June 26, 1902, but had to be postponed at the last minute. Edward, who ascended the throne after Queen Victoria's death, was struck by acute appendicitis only days before the ceremony. At that time, surgery for appendicitis was risky and life-threatening, but thanks to a successful operation, the king recovered. The coronation was eventually rescheduled for August 9, 1902, at Westminster Abbey.
Despite the delay, the ceremony remained grand and impressive. Edward VII, along with his wife, Queen Alexandra, was crowned in a solemn ceremony attended by European nobility and diplomats from around the world. The coronation symbolized a new era, marking the beginning of the Edwardian period, characterized by international diplomacy and the expansion of the British Empire. The postponement did not dampen the celebrations; the British public enthusiastically celebrated the new monarch, who had proven himself resilient and determined.
