400th anniversary of the invention of typography and printing, commemorated at Haarlem in 1823.

Obverse
Mercury, nude except for a partial loin covering, standing facing, head turned left. He holds a radiant torch in his right hand and a shield in his left. Behind him an early printing press, with books placed on both sides below. In the exergue:
“CICCCCCXX – CIOCCCCXXV”.
Legend:
“LAUS URBI · LUX ORBI”.

Reverse
Within a closed laurel wreath, six-line inscription:
“SAECULARE IV
TYPOGRAPHIAE
INVENTAE
HARLEMI
A
LAUR. JANI F. COSTERO”.
Surrounding legend:
“CELEBRATUM HARLEMI X JULII CICICCCCXXIII”.




400-jarig jubileum van de uitvinding van de typografie en boekdrukkunst, herdacht te Haarlem in 1823.

Voorzijde
Mercurius, naakt met gedeeltelijke lendebedekking, staand frontaal en met het hoofd naar links gewend. In de rechterhand een stralende fakkel, in de linker een schild. Op de achtergrond een vroege drukpers, met boeken aan weerszijden aan zijn voeten. In de afsnede:
“CICCCCCXX – CIOCCCCXXV”.
Omschrift:
“LAUS URBI · LUX ORBI”.

Keerzijde
Binnen een gesloten lauwerkrans het opschrift in zes regels:
“SAECULARE IV
