English translation of reverse text: “Van Dyck contributed no less than Rubens to the glory of the Flemish school. As a history painter, he approached that master; as a portrait painter, he surpassed him. And his genius was in no way inferior. In 1620, he joined Rubens, who guided him in the execution of several paintings. From 1621 to 1626, he lived successively in Venice, Florence, Genoa, Turin, Rome and Palermo. In 1631, he went to England and, through his work, acquired a vast fortune at the court of Charles I, who awarded him the insignia of the Order of the Bath.”
