C’est une manifestation publique organisée à Paris de 1798 à 1849 afin « d'offrir un panorama des productions des diverses branches de l’industrie dans un but d’émulation », et qui, dans l'esprit, est à l'origine de la première exposition universelle en 1851.

It was a public event organized in Paris from 1798 to 1849 in order to \\\"offer a panorama of the productions of the various branches of industry for the purpose of emulation,\\\" and which, in spirit, was at the origin of the first universal exhibition in 1851.
