Draped bust of Louis XIV on the right., Crowned shield quartered with France in 1 and 4, modern Burgundy in 2 and ancient Burgundy in 3, mint letter below., A rare coin with a few marks in the fields, on the king's bust and small die breaks in the legend on the obverse and on the right of the shield on the reverse. This coin was minted over a period of two years in just three mints, only one of which, Lille, was minted in 1686! These mints followed Louis XIV's conquests in the North, and were intended to stop the circulation of non-French coins. Our specimen is in a very good state of preservation, particularly the sovereign's wig, which still shows many details, notably in the curls.
